Happy Pink Saturday

Today, I am sharing some random pinks, of lovely things that my dear mother-in-love made. She passed away sadly on December 27, 2011.

This is a gorgeous angel that she crocheted a few years ago. She has a beautiful porcelain head, and is just exquisite in every detail.

A tiny crocheted baby carriage, filled with potpurri, and another little angel. She made many of these little angels, in different colors, and some are made of needlepoint.

Here is a gorgeous Valentine she made for me, done in needlepoint. The card opens like a three fold. Just beautiful!

Here are some tiny little pillows that she made to go with some beds that she had in a dollhouse. The dollhouse was 3' x 5'. When she moved from her home after my father -in -love passed away, she had to sell it. :( My father-in-love also made many pieces of handmade furniture. I will share them another time.

These are more angels that she made. The tiny ones are needlepoint, and the larger white one is made of parchment paper. She was a craft-o-holic , and just loved to make things for herself and others.

She also made this beautiful quilt, here on the back of my chair. Love the pattern and the soft colors of cream, pink, and mauve. The little pillow was bought at a craft show a few years ago, and the bear made from a vintage bedspread was also bought from a craft fair. I just thought she was so cottagey sweet!! Is this a beautiful tree or what? Sometimes, I do my tree Victorian like this.

I love how these vintage ornaments are displayed on these candlesticks. I copied this idea, on my coffee table.

Isn't this the sweetest Christmas shadow box? I found this over at Jills from http://buckscountyfolkart.blogspot.com/ I want to make one of these after the holidays. She also made one for Halloween. I think they are just awesome.

A shabby pink gingerbread house! Love it!!

I also found these on Pinterest. They are called White-Chocolate-Cherry-Shortbread. You use marishino cherries to give them their pretty pink color.

Love these too. Simple, simple and so pretty!

These are some ornaments I made from plastic cups. They are easy, and you can put so many things inside them. If anyone wants to know how, let me know, and after Christmas I will do a tutorial.

These are ornaments I made from brown paper bags. Yes, brown bags. These are pretty easy too. I think the hardest part was cutting them out with the zigzag scissors. They are painted with acrylic paints, and then decorated. If anyone wants directions I will post them.

One of my favorite postcard images. I love the whimsical, and Victorian. I love both syles, so sometimes I decorate with Victorian decorations, and sometimes the cutsie ones, like the ornaments above.

This year is a hard one for us. My dear mother-in-law who is 91, just entered Hospice this past week. She was diagnosed with bone cancer a few weeks ago. The doctor is only giving her about 2 weeks left, before she makes her journey "home". Thank you for coming by for a visit. I want to wish you all a wonderful holiday, and a New Year filled with happiness, good health, and prosperity.

My Favorite Things

Do you remember the song from the musical "My Favorite Things"? Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens......... Well, Yankee Candle has a new collection out for the holidays, called My Favorite Things collection! I received the scratch and sniff (yes that's right) catalog in the mail the other day, and I was so excited! They have the fragrances of Moon on their Wings, Bright Copper Kettles,

Raindrops on Roses, Warm Woolen Mittens, Crisp Apple Strudel, and Blue Satin Sashes! How clever is that? I was skeptical of Warm Woolen Mittens. Now, I thought, what in the world could that smell like? It's hard to describe, but actually one of my favorites! Almost like a clean cotton smell. Yankee candles have always been one of my favorites. The smells really come out, but not overly strong. They also burn for a long time. One of my other favorites of course is the pine scented ones, and gingerbread.

The white chocolate mint is also yummy! Some of the other new ones are Cherries on Snow, Be Jolly, and Icicles.

I can't wait to go to the store, and see all of their goodies! Car fresheners, scented oils, travel tins...... They also have a set of 12 votives in all of the fragrances of the "Favorite Things Collection. You get 2 of each for $19.99. Great stocking stuffers!

I always burn candles in my home, especially in fall and winter. Makes the house smell so cozy, and inviting. Hope this helps with some gift ideas! Thanks for coming by!

The Kitchen Bumper Sticker

Every refrigerator tells a story. I understand how magnets could be momentos of someone's life. Magnets with funny slogans and intriguing shapes had turned the door into a family photo album. The refrigerator became a scrapbook long before scrapbooking was in. They also held crayon drawings, report cards, bills, menus, quotes, obituaries, business cards, phone numbers recipes, greeting cards, letters, cartoons, newspaper clippings, coupons, notes, grocery lists-and a lifetime of memories. It would take a hardened soul to read a stranger's refrigerator door and remain emotionally uninvolved. I remember some of the things magnets held to my own mother's refrigerator door - sayings that made me contemplative and newspaper comics that made me laugh. One of the ones I enjoyed most was the cartoon called "love Is" that used to be in our newspaper each day. My mom would cut them out, and put them on the fridge. I still have some of them today.

A refrigerator door of memories is a family encyclopedia. It is a form of journaling. It serves as a communications center. Today, a refrigerators library has been downsized for the sake of expediency. No reams of paper stick to it. Various electronic instruments of communication have unsurped its information - exchange duties. But, the door is still an important organizer. The magnets hold up messages, a notepad for grocery lists, emergency telephone numbers, and other necessities. Some people today prefer the look of stainless steel, which magnets won't stick to.

They also prefer the uncluttered look. I personally do not like stainless steel, and I like my magnets.

I do occasionally put up a befitting cartoon or comic that happened to give me a chuckle that day, not to mention the picture of me 20 yrs ago, that will inspire me to lose weight, and not open the door. Of course, there are the very creative people out there, who will find a new concept to display the photos, magnets, and reminders, such as this cute memo board made from a baking sheet. So, this is my fridge. The little things that I like to look at, the poem that inspires me, the pictures of my family that I change seasonally, (A large magnet, with a clear cover, that sticks right to the fridge. I purchased it from a catalog) instead of letting them sit in a box on the shelf in the closet. The dear friend, whom I live hundreds of miles from, but think of every day. This is me, this is my fridge, and I like it that way. So, what's on your fridge?

Hey bloggerettes! What's wrong with this picture? (click to make them bigger). Here in central NJ Mother Nature is playing a TRICK on us! Yes, that IS snow you are seeing, and it is beginning to stick!!! We could have about 6" by tomorrow. This is just too bizzare!!
I think we will carve our pumpkins, and listen to Christmas music. No........wait..... maybe watch the Great Pumpkin and bake Christmas cookies. I'm so confused!! lol

Next week the temps will return to the 60's. Stay warm and cozy everyone!

Vintage Things Thursday

Hello, and welcome to another fun Vintage Things Thursday. In August, hubby and I took a little weekend getaway to Lititz Pa. for our 32nd anniversary. They were having a HUGE craft show, and we decided to make a weekend of it. It went on for blocks and blocks and blocks! lol We stopped in the Wilbur Chocolate Company, and the smell was devine! One wall was completely covered in vintage chocolate pots. They weren't for sale, just for display. In case you don't know what a chocolate pot is, I will explain.

Chocolate was an important part of religious and royal ceremonies in 1521. The Maya and Aztecs experimented with different ingredients, along with cocao beans, and 100 yrs later the drink spread throughout Europe. It was then, that the Europeans had started to add sugar and cream to their cocoa. They decided that this drink needed a special vessel in which to serve it.

They designed special pots made with silver and copper. Later, European porcelain manufacturers, such as Limoge Co. in France began to make chocolate pots.

Although some manufacturers still make chocolate pots today, most are regulated to the status of antiques and collectables, and chocolate pot collectors, pay hundred's and even thousands to acquire one. They are different than a coffee pot, as the spouts are short. (click on any picture to enlarge)

On display, they also had hundreds of different kinds of cocoa containers.

Some look to be very old.

Another insteresting display, were these vintage coffee pots and things, that had Halloween theme's carved into them. This one I purchased, is a vintage aluminum flour canister. They spelled out the words "Trick or Treat". There is a hole in the back, so you can put lights in there if you wanted to. I just stuck a clear votive candle holder in there to show you how it lights up. I wanted to try adding some orange or purple lights in there. Set on the kitchen counter, I thought it looked kinda cool.

The girl who was running the stand, said she and her friend were just trying it out, and experimenting with some different kinds of vessels. She was very sweet, and let me take some pics of her creations. They are located in Reinholds, Pa and her e-mail is Neen5555@aol.com. In case you might be interested in purchasing something. I thought her prices were very reasonable.

This looks like very intricate work, and dangerous if you are not careful in cutting these. I wish them luck in their new business.

Here is another creative person at the show. These are banks, that are made from old post office box doors. One was nicer than the other. If you are looking for a unique gift for someone, this might be it. They are a little pricey, ranging from about $85 and up. This picture doesn't do them justice though. The woods are beautifully made, and are works of art. Each box has it's own unique combination, which means the maker has to sit and figure this all out. White Wednesday

Hi everyone! Today, I am joining in with http://fadedcharmcottage.blogspot.com/2011/10/white-wednesday-121.html for White Wednesday. Last year in September, I attended a Victorian Days festival with some girlfriends. It began with this wonderful fashion show of the Victorian Era. My favorite part of this fashion show, were these girls dressed in white and cream vintage wedding dresses! I don't know why, but I just love the beautiful vintage laces and the femininity of these devine dresses! If you can still find them in great condition, they are quite pricey today. The little girl in the front, was just darling in her little afternoon tea dress.
These are vintage nightgowns, complete with little night hats. Just so cute.

This is another dress that was in the show. It could be a wedding dress or for afternoon tea. I would have loved a dress like this when I married. I don't look good in white and prefer the cream colors. Simple, yet so feminine!

A Stranger In My Bed

My girls love Halloween, and love to play jokes on each other. I went into my bedroom last night to get ready for bed, and when I turned on the light, this is what I found in my bed! Scared me at first, but I had to admit it was pretty cool! Like the pink hat, and flip flops. lol!

Hello, and happy first day of fall!! Yippie!! Fall is one of my favorite seasons! I love the cool crisp air, and the changing of the leaves, the smell of burning fireplaces, ummmmmm.......... Now, I am a pink loving girl, but I do like the traditional colors of fall. Although I can't incorporate a lot of the fall colors inside my home, I can do so outside. I have a little area of my dining room, that I also can put fall colors. I am finding sooo many people are using more whites, creams, and browns in their fall decor. I love that too!

I just love how this gal decorated her corn stalks with pretty flowers.

Love these containers all decked out with fall decor too! So easy. Just put your candle in a jar, and fill the space around it with acorns, nuts, or whatever your heart desires.

These cute Halloween decorations are from Kim over at http://kenward.blogspot.com/ The faces on the cats are a download from Martha Stewarts. Kim has the page on her site. I love how Kim did her own design on wooden spools. I want to make some of these chenile characters, but have to order the bumpy chenile stems. They are hard to find.

Kim made these from peat pots, and images from old cards. So cute!

How cute it this little cat on a domino? Love how she decorated them too. I found 2 sets of dominos at my thrift store this week for .75, so I plan on making some of them. As soon as fall arrives so do my crafting ideas.

Today is my birthday, and I am going to wear my Princess Crown! I am 49 AGAIN! Isn't this the prettiest cake, and no calories! I surely am going to have a piece of some kind of chocolate cake though!

The morning will start out with some garage sale shopping. It is the townwide garage sale in our neighboring town. Never know what kind of goodies you will find. I look so forward to this every year, even though sometimes I don't find much. I love the cool crisp mornings, and just the thrill of the hunt.

Vintage Things Thursday

Hello Ladies, and welcome to another Vintage Things Thursday, with our dear friend Suzanne over at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/2011/09/vintage-thingie-thursday-vintage-tea.html Well, hurricane Irene left her mark here in our basement. We got about 4" of water. Luckily, as it started coming in, we were able to quickly get most of the items up off the floor. Some things did get wet, but nothing much to speak of. It could have been a lot worse. Hubby decided he needed to water proof the basement, plus it needed a good cleaning. So, in a way, in was kind of a good thing, because now the work is getting done! Yey!! We have a partially finished basement, and some wooden built in cabinets on one side. While hubby was cleaning out the cabinets, tucked way under a 2x4, he found these tucked underneath! These are vintage party hats, probably from the 50's or 60's, along with this sweet little plastic basket. Aren't they adorable?
Of course hubby loved the fireman one, because he is the fire chief of our town. They are in really nice condition, and the colors bright. I can't beleive they are in such nice condition. We have lived in this house for 33 yrs, and they have been there all this time, and who knows how long before that. I thought they were such a great find! I plan on putting them on e-bay. White Wednesday

Hi everyone, and welcome to White Wednesday! Today, I am sharing some random whites with you. Although I love pink, I am starting to like white and cream more and more. Simple, clean and crisp looking. Especially sheets! Ummm, yummy! This pretty Victorian dress is from a tea room I visited in Florida in May, with my friend Shari, called The Camellia Rose Tea Cottage. You can read about it here. I have coveted one of these dress forms for some time now.

Check out this gorgeous white ribbon rose made from The White Bench! I have made some of these for teacup pin cushions in a much smaller version. Just lovely!

A simple white rose, and elegant pearls dress up this pretty teacup! I have a pink wine glass, that someone special gave me many years ago, and I still have it on my dresser with pearls in it.

Laundry Day

Now, I don't know about you, but there is just something I love about fresh laundry hanging outside on the line to dry blowing in the wind. I am all for new technology, and I am thankful for my dryer......but there is just something I love about freshly washed clothes on the line. It is almost therapeutic. I love this sweet little sampler, that I found hanging on the wall of someone's laundry room, and the saying is so true!

Love this sweet print by Maude Humphrey. It is entitled Laundry Day, and I have the switch plate in my kitchen.

I thought this little guy was so cute "hanging on the line"!

This line of clothes reminds me of being at my grandmas in Va. When I was about 10, and we vacationed there in the summer, I would help my grandma with the laundry. Mondays were laundry days, and she had an old wringer type washing machine. Then, we would take it out, and hang it in the sunshine to dry. I loved it then, and I love it now.

Putting fresh clean sheets on your bed, after they have blown dry on the line is heavenly. Ahhhh, the smell devine! With the birth of my first daughter in 1972, plastic diapers weren't perfected quite yet. I used the white cloth diapers. After I washed them, I would hang them on the line, and they were just so sweet smelling. Mr. Sunshine helped to make them snow white.

I don't hang towels on the line though. They come out feeling like sandpaper to me. Drying clothes on the line, also helps a little with the electric bill.

I love to hand wash delicates and hang them as well. Vintage linens come out wonderful when washed on delicate and hung in the sun to dry.

Hanging clothes on the line, seems to have become a thing of the past. People are much busier, and don't have the time. Young moms today have no clue about this wonderful relaxing pastime. Spring and fall are my favorite times for hanging out the laundry. The first beautiful day in spring, my windows are open, and the sheets on the line! When I do my fall cleaning, the curtains get washed and hung on the line. My whole house smells fresh and clean. I hope you enjoyed your visit today, and thanks for coming by!

Memory Jars

Hi there bloggerettes! It's time for some vintage fun over at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/search/label/Vintage%20Thingies%20Thursdays Today, I want to talk about Memory Jars. Now, I can't take credit for this idea. I had seen some of these at a craft show this past weekend up in Pa. The ones I had seen were filled with vintage items of the past, such as these pictured here. What fun to look at these jars and see items that are no longer made today. Cats eye marbles, keys, a favorite beer or soda bottle cap, plastic soda bottle covers, a small bottle of Evening in Paris perfume, a glass food coloring bottle or a vintage tin that once held some type of medicine or candy. I was showing my daughter the plastic soda covers, and she thought they were bubble blowers. lol! (click on any picture to enlarge)

These are some items from my childhood home, that I have chosen to put into my kitchen memory jar. My moms aluminum measuring cups, icing decorator, cookie cutters, and measuring spoons. I also found some vintage cupcake toppers, vintage spice can, a bottle opener, vintage clothes pins, and a vintage ice cream scoop. I plan to include some other things, and a few recipe cards that my mom had written. I thought it would be a neat thing to put on my kitchen counter as a conversation piece.

I am using a gallon size jar for mine, but you can make it as large or small as you want to, depending on how many things you would like to display. I am still playing around with it, to get the things to display nicely. I discovered if you put a sturdy clear plastic cup in the middle on the bottom of the jar, it helped so things didn't kind of get lost in the middle. I put the cup upside down, and taped it to the bottom of the jar. This allowed me to stand things up a little better, and because the cup was clear, it didn't show.

The ideas for these jars are endless. You can make one with some vintage sewing items from your mom or grandma. Fill them with silly things that make you happy. Perhaps some childhood toys, like a duncan yo yo, or cracker jacks toys. Make one for a family member with fun things that they love. Scrabble pieces, chess pieces, dice, gambling tokens, bingo cards etc........ Include corks from a bottle of wine from a special occasion too.

You could even do one with vintage candies! That would be a fun gift too! I was able to find a lot of vintage candies in the 5 Below store, if any of you have those stores in your area. I even found little boxes of Chicklets!

This picture is courtesy of Martha Stewart. She shows how to make a memory jar from a special trip or vacation. This would be a fun project for the kids to make and display in their rooms. Include pictures of special places in your jars too. Another fun idea, is to write down special memories of things on slips of paper, to make a paper memory jar. Special holiday memories, something funny the kids said, a special gift someone gave you, a date with hubby, and the list goes on. Favorite Memories of childhood

Hello sweet blogger friends! I grew up in the late 50's early 60's and was thinking about some favorite childhood memories. Please come and take a walk down memory lane with me. You may remember some of these too. This was one of my favorite things. A truck with a ride on the back, would come through the neighborhood. It cost .10 for a ride. This was a merry-go-round, but my favorite was the whip.

The penny candy store! Oh my goodness! I was in heaven. A large candy bar cost .05 back then. Today it's more like .75-1.00. For .10 you could get a small bag of ten pieces of candy. I loved how it all was displayed too.

Do you remember Cracker Jacks? The prizes were so cool! People pay a lot of money on e-bay today for these cool charms, and to think we threw them away.

Lemonade stands are pretty much a thing of the past now, but so fun for young kids back in the day. A great way to earn money for some penny candy!

I couldn't wait to here the bells from the Good Humor man! Oh yeah, we would come a runnin'.

My favorite was the Bomb Pop. It was two different kinds of sherbet, covered in dark chocolate. Ummm yummy!

Playing school with my friend, was one of my most favorite things to do when I was about 10. I was always Mrs Dyer. (my favorite teacher in 3rd and 6th grade.) I wore high heels, and we had a blast.

Jump rope was another of my favorites. You just don't see kids outside much anymore, getting exercise and playing.

I used to be pretty good at doing the hula hoop!

I played hopscotch almost everyday. We would be gone for hours playing outside, and only come home for lunch and dinner. Things were so much simpler then.

I had a doll house almost just like this one! I would play for hours with it, rearranging the plastic furniture.

Tammy had to be one of my most favorite toys. We didn't have toys like they have today. We improvised a lot. My dolls, Barbie and Tammy, slept in a shoebox, with a little pillow and blanket that my mom made.

My mom made a lot of my Barbie clothes. I got them for Christmas gifts. I think back on how long it must have taken her to sew those darn things. (I love and miss you so much mom .....sniff) She would have been 86 this year.

I loved to bake with my mom, especially at Christmas. We would bake Christmas cookies, and she would safely tuck them in tins, so we wouldn't eat all of them before Christmas. She was a great cook too! I am lucky to have her Betty Crocker cookbook, her aluminum measuring cups, her pyrex bowls, and her rolling pin.

I started buying my first 45 records when I was 11 I think. We would save out allowance to go to the store and buy one song.

Remember the five and dime store? In the summer I used to go and visit with my grandmother for 2 weeks in Va . Thursdays were grocery shopping days, and we drove into West Point. They had a Ben Franklin store in town, and we were allowed to go in and buy a new box of crayons and coloring book. Afterwards, we went to get ice cream. Oh, this was the highlight of the day!

I loved Woolworth stores! I guess it would be what Walmart is today. Woolworths was a lot smaller though. I got my first job there working in the luncheonette when I was 16. That was what they called it then.

Good ole' soda fountains. Oh they were just the best thing since sliced bread. A great hangout for a teenager too!

Anotherfavorite memory, was going to the beach with my family. We packed a lunch of my moms great fried chicken and potato salad. It was just the best of times. 32 Years Already?

Hi my sweet bloggy friends! Today is my hubby's and my 32nd wedding anniversary! I can't believe that 32 yrs have gone by already. Here we are in 1977! I love this shiny polyester shirt hubby was wearing. Oh, I so wish I could still fit into that pink dress!
This is my daughter from my first marriage. She was 5 yrs old, when hubby and I started dating. Right from the start, they formed a special bond, and he treated her like his own daughter. We had gone to a picnic at the firehouse he was a volunteer member of, and he found her stuffed bunny. He walked around looking for her, with the bunny in one hand, and a drink in the other. I knew early on that he was the man I wanted to grow old with. Here she is at 7, and she was our sweet little flower girl at our wedding.

We had a small wedding, with just about 50 close friends and family. I so wanted to have a cream colored wedding gown, as I didn't get married the first time in a traditional gown. Some family members said, I shouldn't wear a gown as I was not a new bride so to speak. I shouldn't have listened, and did what I wanted. The end result was all that counted.

My mother-in-law dressed up our cake topper with some beaded flowers that she made. (click on pics to enlarge) Marriage for us has it's ups and downs like all marriages do. It takes work, and good communication. Don't sweat the small stuff, and try to compromise. I am not perfect, and neither is my hubby, but together we make it work. I hope to spend many more happy years with him!

Love A Summer Rain

Hi everyone! Well, I don't know about you, but we are having a heat wave here in NJ. We need rain! They were calling for it the other day, and we never got any. From the look of the skies this morning, it sure looked like it might rain any minute. Nope, not one single drop. We certainly do need it, as the temps soared to 104 the other day! Now, just look at these cute little ducks, having fun in this pan of water! I want some of these!!

I remember as a little girl, just loving to dance in the rain. My grandma lived in Va, and when we visited in the summer, we would get really intense thunder storms. The lightening flashed like light bulbs. My favorite part was after the storm. A lot of times there was a big rainbow! In Va, the dirt is very soft, almost like flour. I used to love to step in the big puddles and sqoosh the mud through my toes! Everything look so fresh and clean. Even the air smelled nice!

Roses are my favorite flower! Can you tell? There is just something even more beautiful about a rose, when it is covered in raindrops.

Look at this sweet little girl. She almost looks like she is thanking the heavens for the rain for her flower.
I love these flowers. I have them in my front yard, and dang I can't remember what they are called.

Peonies are another of my favorites. Even prettier sprinkled with raindrops!

It seems the little girls today, can have their own little playhouse in their yards. Here are just some examples of how you can decorate them.

Creative Gardening

Hi Bloggerettes! Come take a walk down a pretty garden path, and I will share some creative gardening ideas! It's always fun to come up with new things to plant our flowers in, and creative ideas for the garden.( Click on photos to enlarge) Have a chair you no longer want, or maybe you might find one at curbside someplace. Take that baby, paint it up, and plant some flowers in it.

You can get some chicken wire, and nail it to the underside bottom of your chair. Line it with a coconut shell liner, (you can find them in Lowes or home depot, or garden center) Fill it with soil and plant your plants!

I like this idea! An old ladder has a new purpose. Decorate it with birdhouses, old gardening tools, whatever suits your fancy.

This is really a cool bed of flowers! I wish I could find one of these curbside, to stick in my garden.

How about some vintage wine boxes!

This is one of the coolest ideas I have seen yet. I found this over at Carol's of http://oldglorycottage.blogspot.com/2011/06/dirty-dishes-in-garden.html. She is calling it the Dirty Dishes Fountain. I love this! I plan on making one. Read about how to do it here!

This photo is from my own garden. I had seen in a magazine, where they lined their flower beds with saucers! Yes, saucers! I have found these at yard sales, and flea markets for .25 - .50 each.

I think they look so cute. One of my husband's friends had asked if we were growing dishes! The bike planter I had picked up a few years ago in Michaels, and I had a 40% off coupon. Yippie!!

It was a green color, and had started to rust. So, I gave it a coat of fresh white paint, and I like it better! (forgot to get a picture of the back) lol

This is a vintage aluminum coffee pot! I had seen in a magazine, where they used all kinds of different things in the garden to plant in. This had no lid, and I didn't need it anyway, so I got it really cheap. Hubby drilled some holes in it for drainage, and here it is. The black handle blends in with the driveway. I have had people drive down the street, and stop and look at it pointing. lol I hope they don't think I am nuts.

On the back of my bike I have a vintage aluminum pot also filled with flowers.

They are so excited to show you their new Easter outfits.

These bears and bunnies are the new spring line from the Bearington Bear collection. On the left we have Tori Tearose bunny, and on the right is Rosie Rosebud.

Here is pretty Tia Tearose.

They made some molded Easter chocolates for their party. Eggs, bunnies, lambs, ducks, and chicks! They made the little baskets too!

They made a chocolate chip pizza, and cupcakes to go along with their tea.

Vintage Things Thursday

Hi Everyone! Welcome to Vintage Things Thursday, hosted by Suzanne at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/search/label/Vintage%20Thingies%20Thursdays Thanks Suzanne! I have shared these in the past, but for those of you who are new to this, or haven't seen them before, I am sharing them again. I don't know why, but I love vintage wedding pictures. This is a picture of my in-laws on their wedding day in 1944. My father in law was in the army, so they selected a military cake topper. My mother in law had beaded the whole thing herself. (please click on any picture to enlarge) It is made of a chalk-like material on the bottom. It is also musical, but no longer works. It is very old and fragile now, but I am happy to have it. My mother in law just turned 91 in March.

The picture on the left is a picture of my mother and aunt. My mother is the one with the fingers in her ears! lol I don't know who the other people are, but I just love the pictures. I wonder who they were, and what kind of marriage they had.

Teacup Tuesday

Hello, and welcome to another Teacup Tuesday! A few weeks ago, my friend and I went to a Victorian tea room, called The New Leaf. The pictures didn't come out as vivid as I had hoped. This is what greeted us when we walked through the door. (click on pics to enlarge)We were directed to go over to this area, to select a hat for our tea. They had so many pretty ones to choose from. They even had small hats for little girls. I selected a pink one of course.

My friend and I both ordered the tea sandwiches, and selected treats. It was served on this cute little tray. On the left were 6 kinds of sandwiches, like chicken salad, and cucumber. There was a cupcake cup filled with different fruits. We also each received a scone, with raspberry jelly, and clotted cream. Ummmmm, yummy! Then, came the desserts. Little cakes, and a chocolate covered strawberry.

The china was white trimmed in gold. It looked very elegant on the table. Our waitresses were sweet young ladies, wearing filigree aprons. I chose an orange cranberry tea.

This was a little section of all kinds of special tea things for sale.

The cups were all so pretty, and I love how they displayed them. I didn't buy one, because I already have too many!

Everything was so pretty! It was all decorated for spring!

This was another part of a dining area. I love the high windows.

Love these beautiful high ceilings too! The colors on the walls, were a very pale green. The curtains made them pop.

I hope you enjoyed my tour of this lovely tearoom. Afterwards, we did some antiquing! We had a lovely day! Thanks for coming by!

Favorite Cupboard Party

Hello everyone, and welcome to A Favorite Cupboard party hosted by Shiela of http://notesongs.blogspot.com/2011/04/its-time-for-heart-of-home-party.html This looks like it is going to be a fun party! Thanks Shiela for being our sweet hostess for today.Today I am sharing my doll cabinet, that we inherited from my dear father-in-law when he passed away in 1983. He was a collector of milk memorabilia, and at the time, this cabinet was filled with whimsical cow creamers. I knew at that time, this cabinet was coming home with us. (click on any photo to enlarge)

It sits in a little alcove in our dining room. I knew it would be perfect for my doll collection, which also started with a vintage doll that was given to me by my dear-mother-in-law. I also collect bears, which have also found their way into the cabinet.

This little canopy bed, was made by dear father-in-law. He had made a giant dollhouse for my mother-in-law, and had created a lot of the furniture himself, using the tiniest of tools. I cherish this little bed, and my mother-in-law also made the coverlet, canapy cover, and little pillows you see on the bed. She could tat, and crochet.

Here, are some of my Boyd's autumn bears. I love this little doll with the pouty face.

The angel pictured here, on the right, was also made by mother-in-law. Just beautiful trimmed in feathers. Oh, that Easter bunny needs to come out for Easter.

I also have started collecting a few vintage planters, and some Lefton figurines you see in this picture.

Many years ago, I used to go to doll shows. They had handmade doll artists there, who made the most gorgeous dolls. The one in blue, I was lucky to bring home from one of these shows. The others were gifts from the Franklin Mint I believe.

This is my china cabinet. I have a lot of different pretties in there, including tea cups, and things that dear mother-in-law had made. One day I plan on painting this one white. I plan on keeping the doll cabinet as is. Hubby won't let me paint it anyway. lol!

Well, it's finally April, and my thoughts are ones filled with beautiful arbors like these! I so want one in my yard. A white one, dripping with pink roses! I just love the stone walkway in this picture. This one is perfect, with it's curved rounded top! I just love the lattice on the sides. Love the gate too. Almost looks like a secret garden.

Is this a beautiful welcoming front yard or what? I think it needs a little garden gate too.

I bet there is a beautiful English garden on the other side of this one.

I would like to share with you, one of my favorite spots to relax with a cup of tea, and a favorite magazine. Today, I am enjoying a cranberry scone with raspberry jam, and an issue of TeaTime Magazine. It is a delightful one, filled with pretty photographs, and recipes. I found these little spoons online, in a set of 6. They have little teapots on the ends, and I thought they were so cute. (click on any picture to enlarge) I found this vintage wicker bed tray at a yard sale for $3!! I just love it!

Spring Cloche Party

Hi girlfriends! It's time for a Spring Cloche Party over at http://astrollthrulife.blogspot.com/2011/03/welcome-to-spring-cloche-party.html Thanks Marty for hosting this fun party for us!! It's always a fun time visiting others and see what they can come up with to put under a cloche. Here is a darling little "plant" made of beads, that my dear Mother-in-law made. Each bead is strung on wire to form flowers and leaves. I just love it under this little cloche, and pretty saucer.

This is one of Rhonda's wonderful faux cakes!

This is a tiny teacup pincushion that I made, using ribbon flowers. (Click on any picture to enlarge)

Now, this isn't a cloche, but it's a box! lol I figured I'd throw this in too, since it reminds me so much of spring. I got this idea from sweet Dawn, over at the Feathered Nest. She had this image, and shared it with us, so I decided to make a bedroom scene with it. I just love the little bird at the window, singing "It's time to get up". I took several pictures, so you can see it at different angles.

I put scrapbook paper on the sides to make it look like wallpaper. I love how it turned out! Thanks Dawn for the inspiration.

Opps, I think I got an extra picture in here somehow. lol!

I thought this was a cute vignette with all lavendars.

Here is a little basket that I made for Easter. My friend and I had a craft day, and we made some of these in different styles and colors.

Today's teacup I would like to share with you is from Royal Albert called "Serina". This reminds me so much of spring with all the pretty flowers in it. The little bear is from the Bearington Collection. She is ready for spring too, with her little pink sweater.

Now, what goes with a nice cup of tea, on a cold rainy day such as today? Almond pound cake with strawberries on top, dusted with a little powdered sugar for perfect sweetness.

Love the pretty gold edging around the saucer.

The handle is curved so dainty. Just love this cup!

I am enjoying Celestial Seasons herbal tea, called Sleepytime, and a cranberry lemon scone, with raspberrry jam. Even though it is sleepytime, I enjoy the taste anytime of day! It's so nice to set a pretty setting to treat yourself.

I love roses! Can you tell? Mostly pale pinks, but I like white ones too. These I have sitting in a crystal creamer.

A lovely vintage hankie I purchased at an antique shop, will be my napkin. I think these are so pretty used as napkins.

I love this pretty teacup with the dainty roses on it. It is made in Germany, but has no other name on it. If anyone knows, please let me know. I love this gorgeous valentine that I purchased from e-bay! Soooo romantic!

Here is a little vignette on my coffee table. A cottage white birdhouse, and a bird that I made. (click on any picture to enlarge). She is ready with things to make her nest.

Some little hearts that I made out of felt. The white one was bought. I did a blanket stitch on the edges, and adorned them with little beads, flowers, pearls, and sequins. I made a few french knots too. I planned on making more, but didn't have time.

I just love this pretty teacup filled with roses!!

The bears love to have a tea party! They are dressed and ready to party! They saw I bought cupcakes, and they wanted one. I love the little tatted doily on the table that my mother-in-law made. The longer one is a hanky.

These are pretty boxes I picked up at Michael's. They are made to look like books. The top just flips open. Perfect for your remote.

The Weather Outside is Frightful!

Hello sweet bloggerettes! We had a whopper of a snowstorm here in central NJ, and I just thought I would share some pictures. It was nice to get some snow for the holidays, but this was a bit much! lol It actually was a blizzard, as you will see the snow drifts in the following pics. This picture was taken in the late afternoon on Dec 26th. So still and quiet, no one hardly on the roads.

Hello, and happy holidays! I thought I would share some pictures of my vignettes around my home. I hope you all are enjoying the season so far. I'm linking up with Cindy of My Romantic Home for show and tell Friday. Here is my snowman collection. I put down red and white lights first, and then the batting over the top. You can't see the lights in these pics, because we used the big spotlight to take these pics.

You can click on any picture to make it bigger. The little sign I made in the front of the snowmen, says "Shaped by the cold, from the Warmth of Young Hearts." I usually leave them up til February. Some of them I had made a few yrs ago. They are the ones in the front with the little scarves on. There is a father, mother, and children.

This is my Christmas village, made with houses that my dear mother-in-law made in needlepoint. there are several others that I just didn't have room for. The red one in the front is a firehouse.

I love this part of the village where there are trees and wreaths for sale. My mother-in-law made the little tiny wreaths. Aren't' they just adorable? Next to the fence stands a mailbox for Santa's mail.

It takes quite awhile to assemble everything. I leave this up til Feb also. It looks so pretty at night with the white lights underneath it. Thanks for coming by, and may all your Christmas wishes come true! Don't forget to stop by Cindy's to see the other participants.

Easy Pumpkin Bread

I love pumpkin bread, and this recipe is sure to make people think you spent hours in the kitchen making it from scratch! You will need a box of Pillsbury pumpkin flavor quick bread. Raisins, walnuts (if desired)

butter, and a box of oatmeal (not instant) Follow directions on the pumpkin bread, and mix in 1/2 cup of raisins, and 1/2 cup of walnuts finely chopped. Grease and flour a 9x5 loaf pan, or use cooking spray like Pam. I pop it into the oven, and while it bakes for 20 min, I prepare this topping.

I use this topping for apple crumb pie, but discovered it tastes great on pumpkin bread too. Makes it taste more like homemade. In a medium bowl combine:

3/4 C brown sugar

1/2 C all purpose flour

1/2 C rolled oats (not instant)

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 C butter

I cut the butter into small little pieces, and mix it all together with a fork until it resembles course crumbs. You will have enough mixture for 2 or three loaves of bread, depending how much topping you put on each one. If you only want to make one, you can cut the recipe in half, or save it in the fridge in a container. Mine has kept for several weeks. I find the topping works best by baking the bread for 20 min first, then spoon on your topping, and continue baking about another 20 min or until done. If you put the topping on first, it kind of sinks down, and doesn't come out as nice. I have made several of these for the holidays as well as given them for gifts. Pop them into the freezer, and you have a great homemade like dessert for company stopping by. Enjoy!

It's time once again for Pink Saturday! Thanks so much Beverly from How Sweet the Sound for hosting. This is one of my absolute favorite pictures of my youngest daughter, who is now 19. Where does the time go? I can't believe it. She always made this little face, and I am so glad she did while they were snapping her picture. I think she was about 9 months old. Just precious!

This next one, is a basket I found at the thrift store for 2.92! It has the sweetest roses on it, and you know I can't pass them up!

Next, is a gift from a sweet lady I met in blogland. We got together with some other friends, and went to a Victorian Day, in Belviedere NJ. She brought a little gift for each of us, beautifully wrapped in the prettiest pink bag. I just love it. Thanks Sandy!

I would like to share today, some scrapbook Halloween pages I made about 7 yrs ago. The above picture is my daughter when she was 2,3, and 4. She is 37 today, so these have given me much pleasure to look at over the years. You can click on the pictures to see more detail. In the first picture, she is Holly Hobby, which was very popular in 1976. Just a nightgown, and little hat was perfect. As a young mom, with a limited budget, I did the best with what I had. The second photo she is Raggedy Ann. A Raggedy Ann dress, some red tights, a wig made from yarn, and done. She looked so cute! Lastly, is Little Red Riding Hood. Someone gave me a red and white gingham skirt, and I already had a red hooded sweatshirt, and red poncho. I love the little candies they had in the scrapbook section. They look so real!

These photos are from my middle daughter. I used cookie cutters to make these shapes. So fun to make! I really enjoyed putting together their costumes.

This photo was taken 19 yrs ago, when we used to take the kids for the annual pumpkin picking

Fun Baby Shower Game

I am helping to plan a Halloween themed baby shower for my daughter's friend. We were looking on the internet for fun games to play, and we found this. It is like the version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, only this version is self explanatory lol! It got good reviews, and people said they had a ball playing it. The mother-to-be already knows about the party, so we checked with her first to make sure it was appropriate. She loved the idea. It is nicely made, and the colors are nice and bright. I was laughing at the return address, when it arrived four days later. lol! I'm wondering what the mailman and the people at the post office thought. lol!

Just thought I would share this, in case you might need a fun game sometime for a shower.

Fall Cloche Party

Here, I have displayed a favorite cloche, with a vintage bride image I found on the internet. I think at one time, I must have lived in a different era. I just love these vintage pictures of children and brides. This one is just so romantic looking. I have accented it with a vintage clothes brush, and vintage baby spoon, along with a little Victorian purse that is actually a Christmas ornament.

I have filled a trifle bowl with ornaments that I had gotten at Crate and Barrel. Perfect Autumn colors, along with some sparking metallic leaves. In the little cloche are glass ornaments of little acorns and pumpkins. The glass garland around the trifle bowl was also found at Crate and Barrel. I don't decorate with a lot of orange in the fall, mostly just around Halloween. these colors say fall without the traditional oranges. Glad I was able to hop in at the last minute. Vintage Things Thursday

Come for a walk with me down memory lane while I talk about some of the famous candy from the 50's and 60's! Here is the 3 layer coconut bar. In the store called Five Below here in NJ. Oh my goodness! I was so excited to find an image of this famous wax whistle! This was so popular at Halloween time in the 50's. They are calling it a Wowie Whistle! It was just like the wax lips you can still find today, only you could blow on this like a whistle. We kids of the Boomer years just couldn't get enough of them. They were wrapped in cellophane adorned with black cats, bats, and the like. That first whiff of the newly-unwrapped wax was heavenly. A Canadian candy company called Concord confections still produces the lips, and supposedly, even the Wowee Whistle.

Here is another wax-encased candy. Remember the Nik-L-Lip wax bottles? There was a sweet liquid inside.

Here are the ever famous Ju Ju Bees. I didn't care much for these. Tiny little chewy hard candies, that came in rainbow colors. To me, they all tasted mostly the same. Most stores still carry these. they were a favorite for eating at the movies.

We can't forget candy buttons! Little tiny pieces of candy, connected to strips of paper. You have to peel or bite them off, and almost always got some paper still stuck to it. Some places still carry them.

Here we have the wax lips! Loved these as a kid. We always got these at Halloween time. They still have these today. I don't know if they are as good as the ones we had as kids though.

The all time FAVORITE was Bonomo Turkish Taffy!!! We loved this as kids, and so did our dentists!!! lol! We would smack that boy down on a hard surface, and that baby would break into bite sized pieces. Pure heaven!! I have not seen this anywhere since the 60's, but I have heard rumors that Cracker Barrel restaurant has them! I have to check that out! Chocolate and vanilla were my favorites.

Now, I am sure a lot of you have heard of Wegmans' food store. They are here on the east coast.

I am not sure if they have them in the mid-west of west coast. They have all kinds of bins with many of the small penny candies we had as boomers. Here are the Maryjanes. The Bit-o-honey photo is a few pictures down.

Another store here in NJ is called 5-Below. I took these photos of the shelves inside the store. They have most of the retro candy right here! I couldn't believe it! Necco wafers you can find pretty much everywhere though.

The Clark bars, Zagnut, Mallo Cups, Oh -Henry's are all here! I loved Clark Bars. I remember, back in the day, I guess I was about 10. My mom didn't drive, and she loved her Kent brand cigarettes, and her True Story ladies magazine. She would give me money .35 for cigs, and .10 for 2 candy bars. She loved Almond Joy, and me the Clark bar. I would ride my bike down to the corner confectionery to buy our treats. Back then, I could buy the cigarettes too! I never smoked though, and so glad I never started.

Here is the Skybar! I never cared for that one much.

Loved Chuckles too! Also hard to find in most stores. Licorice, and cherry were my favs!

How about Baby Ruths?

Dots are still around, black crows not so much. I have seen them in most Walgreens stores though.

I also found candy cigs, mini Sugar Daddies,Tootsie Rolls, and mini Chicklets in my Five-Below store! I plan on getting some more, and put them in a candy jar on my kitchen counter. I have wanted one for quite some time, and finally found one on an antique hunt with some friends. It was $28, and in good condition. I plan on painting it pink, and displaying vintage linens in it.

This is an antique baby scale. The graphics on it are really nice and colorful. It is in great condition with no rust. It's missing it's top, but I think it's still really cool!

Here is a vintage baby dress from the 50's, I picked up at a church bazaar. I had posted this last week for pink Saturday also. It has sweet little flocked flowers on it, and it's original hang tag. I plan on hanging it on my bedroom wall, with other little vintage white dresses. (Thanks hubby) lol!

These items are from my local Goodwill, all at 25% off. Cute pair of old Navy shorts for grandson,

a bag of vintage white buttons, (YEY), and old ball jar, and the sweetest Napco baby planter.

The first item I would like to share, is this adorable vintage pink dress! I found it at a church bazaar last year for $8. It is from the 50's, and has the original hang tag still attached. It has the sweetest little flocked flowers on it. Pinkalishious (yes, Eileen, that is a made up word lol) and adorable!

This is a vintage teacup, that I found while antiquing with some girlfriends last Friday. It is from the Shelley collection, and the pattern is called Bridal Rose. Little pink roses, and the pretty scalloped edge sold me on this one.

This is a Victorian music box, that I acquired some years ago, at one of my favorite boutiques. I collect dolls, and just fell in love with this. I thought it was so unusual and different. Vintage Things Thursday

Hello and welcome to another fun Vintage Things Thursday, hosted by sweet Suzanne of Colorado lady. Thanks Susanne for hosting this fun party for us each week. Last Friday, I went antiquing with some girlfriends in Point Pleasant NJ. I love antiquing and had never been there before. Oh wow, was I in for a treat! We went to this store that used to be an old Woolworth's store. How cool is that? For those of you not familiar with Woolworth's, it was a 5&10 from maybe the 50's into the 70's. Here is the front of the building.

Filled to the brim with vintage goodies galore!!

This was taken at a different store, also filled with a lot of vintage goodies!

This was taken in a big building called the Vintage Emporium. There were three floors in this one. Look at all of the pretty jewelry! There was so much to take in! I didn't know where to look first.

Lots of pretty china and dishes here. This photo was taken looking down from the second floor.

This mannequin was also in the jewelry section.

This is another store we visited. In total there were about 6 of them that we went to. It was vintage heaven!

This was very interesting. A vintage frame with a screen attached to the back that you can hang your earrings on. I had also seen something like this in another store, where lace was attached to the back. The picture didn't come out well. I think I liked that one better.

This was from another store with a more rustic appeal to it.

Teacup Tuesday

Here is a closer look at the teacup.

This darling little teacup, is gold and white. It also just says Bavaria on the bottom. This little teacup is so special, because my daughter and I used to have little tea parties, and this was her cup. She was about 8-10 at the time, and she is now almost 20! Where do the yrs go? I will always treasure this little cup.

This is a pretty sugar bowl I got at a garage sale. It has an RS mark on the bottom. Not sure where it is from. Just loved the green with the little delicate flowers. My little frozen charlotte cupie wants to join the party. I love these little dolls. I just bought her from e-bay for $10!

Hello, and welcome to another fun vintage things Thursday, hosted by Suzanne ofhttp://coloradolady.blogspot.com/search/label/Vintage%20Thingies%20Thursdays. Thank you so much for hosting this fun party each week. Today, I am sharing some vintage things from around my home. Here is some of my collection of vintage laces, and white lace hankies. On the top is a tatted doily, made by my dear mother-in-law. There are some lace hankies with tatted lace edges. She tried to teach me how to tat, and I just couldn't get the hang of it. Tatting is a very intricate kind of lace making, using one single cotton thread, and a tatting shuttle.

Under this glass dome, is a vintage wedding photo, and silver vintage clothes brush, and some more lace. This lace was crocheted by my husband's grandmother.

Here is some more vintage lace pieces I have displayed in a jar, and a display of some vintage white buttons.

This was hard to photograph, as the camera kept reflecting off the glass. I had to take kind of a side view of it. It is a collage I put together in a shadow box frame, using some of my mom's, grandmother's, and mother in laws things. I love cottage, and Victorian decor. I wanted it to look more Victorian. I took a shadow box, and distressed the outside with gold rub on paint, then hot glued a lace edging around it. Two layers of lace around the outside. In the corners, I used single

flowers in different hues of burgundy. I just hot glued them as I went along. For the background, I used a shiny material in sage green. Inside, I tacked jewelry that my mom wore on the nights she would get dressed up and go out with my dad. I would sit on her bed, and watch her get ready. I put my grandmother's pearls, and watch, and some flowers made by my mother-in-law out of ribbon. Everything is just tacked down with a needle and thread. No glue. This is a darling little image I plan on putting in a frame. Reminds me of my daughters when they were little playing at the beach. Rose and Peonies are my favorite flowers.

This is a new flower I have just discovered. Angelique tulips! I plan on getting some of these for my garden this fall. So delicate and pretty.

Pink Saturday

Hello, and welcome to Pink Saturday, hosted by Beverly of http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/pink-saturday/ Today, I would like to share some of my pretty pink dolls. This first one I bought many yrs ago from the Franklin Mint. I forget what it is called, but the mother is styling her daughter's hair. The little girl is looking in her mirror. They are made of beautiful porcelain, and I have them displayed in a case that my dad made. It is as big as an end table, and is made of glass with a wooden frame. It has a door on it, so I can take them in and out.

This one is also porcelain. I received this for my birthday from my dad. He always bought me pretty dolls for my birthday, even as a grownup. I love the lace dress on her, and it has a long trail in the back. She is quite large and measures about 1 1/2 ft tall.

Pink Saturday

Hi, it's once again Pink Saturday, and Beverly from http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/pink-saturday/ is having another party! Come and join the fun! Today, I would like to share a lovely sachet Mother Pillow, that my daughter gave me for Mother's Day last year. You may click any picture to enlarge. The saying says " A Mother's love can not be measured. It's a brilliant gem to be treasured." It has the most pretty millinary flowers on it, and I just love it.

These are the most darling strawberry sachets that I bought from e-bay. Filled with the lovely scent of lavendar buds, and they smell yummy! Each one has the sweetest embelishments on them.

I picked up these "no fat" chenile cupcakes at a craft fair. I have them displayed on this plate of beautiful dainty roses. The plate was also a recent e-bay find.

Lastly, some pretty perfume bottles. The bottle on the left is a little bustier. It has little pink crystals on it, and a little enamled butterfly. The bottle on the right was an e-bay find. Supposedly, these survived in a very old factory fire many years ago, and been retrived. I love the pretty image. Vintage Thingies Thursday Got Milk?

Hi, and welcome to another fun Vintage Things Thursday, hosted by our dear friend Suzanne of http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/search/label/Vintage%20Thingies%20Thursdays Thanks Suzanne! This is always such fun! Today, I am sharing with you some vintage milk memorabilia, that was collected by my dear father-in-law. He belonged to a club back in the 1960's that collected everything you can think of relating to milk. Back then, most people had milk delivered by a milkman, delivered in glass milk bottles such as the one pictured below. Everyone drank milk, it was good and wholesome, and something everyone could relate to. So, began his extensive collection of milk bottles, cow creamers, butter churns, and items with Elsie, the famous cow. This bottle is one of hundreds of bottles he collected in his basement. The shelves were lined with them from ceiling to floor.

Here is one of the many butter churns he collected. He even had the big ones that were all wooden. His entire collection was sold back in the 1980's when he passed away, and mom sold the house. He collected bottles with people all over the United States through this bottle club. It was something like E-bay is now, only much more complex, with letters being exchanged from a typewriter using snail mail. When everything was sold, the grand total came to about $23,000, which was a lot in the 80's.

Pictured here, are thousands of paper milk bottle tops that he collected. They are all organized in this huge album. You can click on any picture to make them bigger. There are tops from cream, chocolate milk, whipping cream, buttermilk, and skimmed milk.

Of course when you think of milk, how can you forget Elsie the famous cow? Pictured here is an Elsie mug, and glass that we kept from his collection.

And, lastly, the hat that dad made to wear to all of his bottle club meetings, and swap meets.

Note the little milk bottle sitting on the top. It was full of milk bottle caps, and advertising buttons. Dad's motto was "Always Stay Grade A". We miss him dearly! Please don't forget to visit Suzanne for more vintage fun!

Teacup Tuesday

Hello, and welcome to another fabulous Teacup Tuesday hosted by http://www.marthasfavorites.com/. Thank you so much Martha for hosting this for us! Today, I would like to share with you my little set of teapot salt and pepper shakers. You can click on the pictures to make them bigger. The tops are silver plate, and the bottoms are clear glass. These weren't very expensive, but I just fell in love with them because they are so cute. The vase I am using for these tiny roses, is actually a toothpick holder I picked up at Goodwill. The roses are so adorable, and they seem to be kind of a wild rose. I found them by a building near my home. The little buds are perfect for crafting. This teacup has the sweetest little pink roses on it. Do you see a pattern here? I just love pink roses!! It has a name on the bottom I can't quite make out, and it also says Bavaria, Germany. The little rose is also one from this bush.

Teacup Tuesday

Here is some of my collection of teacups under one of my favorite cloches! I found this at Home Goods. I love it on this pretty pink cake/cookie stand. You can click on any picture to make it larger. The first teacup is from Germany, I can't make out the name. The second is Royal Albert, and the third is chintz, from Royal Winton. In this picture is some of my vintage linens and laces I displayed in this pretty rack. The cherub holder I found at an antique shop, and it says Relpo on the bottom with a number. I love it's soft creamy white color.

Here is my Lady Carlyle cup from Royal Albert. I just love this cup. I found a whole set of cups, saucers, and dinner plates at Home Goods. The pretty rose on the saucer I made from wired ribbon. I plan on using them on some teacup pincushions in the future. The beautiful white hankie says Mother on it, and was a gift from daughter for Mother's Day, along with the little dish and tiny spoon beside it. It is from Limoges, and I thought it would be perfect for some sweet and low. The little spoon with the teacup on it, I purchased from e-bay.

I just love this little frozen charlotte doll. I had seen them around blogland, and did some searching on e-bay, and finally found one. She is sitting in this pretty teacup from Royal Albert called "Serena".

I almost flipped when I found these nylon gloves in an antique shop for $6. The softest shade of pink, and perfect to wear to a tea party.

Vintage Things Thursday

This doll was given to me by my dear mother-in-law many yrs ago. She started collecting all kinds of dolls back in the 1960's - 70's. This is what started my collection of dolls, and my love for pretty Victorian things, including vintage laces, and vintage baby dresses. (click on pictures to enlarge)

She is from 1910, and I just love her little porcelain face. The rest of her body is a composition material. I can't imagine little children playing with this. The eyes are glass, open and close, and are expensive to fix, should they fall back in her head. This happened earlier this year, when the carriage I had her sitting in, toppled over. They have to soak off the wig to get inside the head, and reattach them. According to some articles I have read on the internet, these dolls were only owned by richer families, and only played with on Sunday's with the mother present.

PINK SATURDAY

Hello, and welcome to another great Pink Saturday held by Beverly of http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/04/pink-saturday-april-10-2010.html. Today, I am sharing the pretty pale pink milk glass hobnail bowl I found at one of my favorite antique shops. I really scored that day, because the bowl was 28.00 with a 30% off discount. This item was a thrift store find. I love this color glass, and it has etchings on it too. The store put thick industrial scotch tape on it, all the way around, because it comes in sections. I don't think anyone knew what it was, but I did! It was 2.92 (they mark the prices weird like that) with 25% off! I couldn't get a good picture of the etchings, but you can enlarge any picture.

This is a sweet teacup I picked up when I went to my favorite tea shop with my girlfriend called Cottage By The Sea in Avon NJ. They have all kinds of eye candy. Vintage linens, teacups, jewelry, etc. They serve lunch, and we always get the sweet little finger sandwiches platter. Every attention to detail is given by the sweet hostess, Jan, and when you meet her, it's like she is an old friend. In addition to the sweet sandwiches, you will get a little cup of homemade potato salad, a piece of scone, or date nut bread, all arranged so pretty on the plate, you won't want to eat it! They also serve all kinds of delicious teas, in the bag, or loose. The have a downstairs full of vintage and new things, and outside you can find various linens, and pieces of furniture for sale. it is located on Sylvania Ave. in Avon,NJ. thanks for coming by, and don't forget to stop by Beverly's to see the other participants. Vintage Easter Blog Hop

This is a vintage vignette I have put together. The two postcard images here, are ornaments that you can hang. They have a clear plastic covering over the top, and little gold accents on the corners. Please click on any picture to enlarge. The vintage bunny pushing the cart was a find in a little boutique in town, and is covered in glitter. It may look like polka dotted but it's not.

A vintage candy box. These are hard to find.

Now, I had purchased this vintage patent handbag, with the idea to put flowers in it. I just set a tall glass inside the purse, and you can fill it with water for real flowers, or put fake ones in if you want to. I have used it with tulips as well. Truly a conversation piece. I thought it would be befitting for today, since it is vintage. Get out your vintage evening purses with short handles, and hang them on a wall with vintage pictures in them. Really cute.

A little vintage chick figurine, it doesn't have any marks on it. The little girl carrying her precious baby chicks is a Lefton piece. The little chocolate bunnies are from a catalog.

These are real eggs done in a vintage style, that I purchased from an egg show a few yrs ago. The one on the left is a pretty Victorian lady. Click on the picture to see the beautiful cut out work on this. The one on the right is a goose egg I believe. This one is gorgeous trimmed in rhinestones. The amazing thing is, it opens to reveal a little treasure box lined in velvet.

I can't imagine how tedious it must be to make one of these. They hold the egg shows in March, and they all are truly a work of art. I think I paid about 35.00 for this one.

I just love this little bear, with her mohair sweater and little hat. A florist in town has these at Easter time, and I just love them. The little yellow chicks in the egg, was a find in Fortunoff. The egg is decorated in the prettiest aqua colored foil.

This is my collection of vintage egg vases, that I purchased on e-bay. Some of these are made by Napcoware, and some just have numbers on the bottom. I am on the hunt for a pink one now.
Another little girl bear is all decked out in her pink sweater. I just love these!

Here is a candy dish that I made in ceramics back in 1971. Does that count as vintage? I loved going to ceramics, and I started when I was about 19. I only have a few pieces left, as most of them went out of style. Well, I hope you enjoyed your visit. I hope everyone has a blessed Easter. Tabletop Tuesday And Show and Tell

Thank you Marty for hosting this fun party! You can click on any picture to enlarge it. I would like to share my coffee table all decorated for Easter. I love all the pretty pastel colors, and use them in my home a lot. The little Easter houses I picked up in the Christmas Tree Shop. Believe it or not, they have all kinds of decorations in there for all the seasons, and are very inexpensive.

I fell in love with this little bunny, dressed in pink, and carrying her little baby bunny. I found this is TJ Maxx for 7.99. The white ceramic bunny on the left I found in Home Goods, as well as the decoration under the cloche.

The pink glass bunny I just found in TJ Maxx also, and the little white ceramic bird I found in Michaels. I just love their home decor.

On the right side in this picture, is a pretty goblet I found in Home Goods also. In it I put little strawberry sachets, done in shabby chic colors, that I found on e-bay. I couldn't decide if I liked the bunny there or the sachets.

On these 2 little houses, the lids come off, I guess if you wanted to put a little gift in them. I just realized I didn't get a good photo of the table. I has white cherubs all around it. The bottom used to be a brown marble top Formica, and the cherubs were gold. I painted it white, and I like it much better. VINTAGE THINGS THURSDAY

I'm joining in on the Vintage Things Thursday party over at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/search/label/Vintage%20Thingies%20Thursdays. Thanks Suzanne for hosting for us! Today, I would like to share with you some vintage egg vases. I had never heard of them until about a year ago, when I saw them on someones blog. I immediately went on e-bay to see if I could find one. The first one I got, was the larger one, which measures 6". They are ceramic and have hand painted flowers on them. They come in 6" sizes, and then the smaller ones which are about 4". I liked the cracked egg effect along the top edge, and they all are footed at the bottom. I also liked that they come in all pretty pastel colors. Even though these are all blue, the shades are different, and the flowers are somewhat different also. Now, I am on the lookout for a pink one. Some are made by Napco, and others just have numbers on them. The little pink basket in the front, is made from a vintage jello mold. I purchased that on Etsy. Click on any picture to enlarge. I just fell in love with this vintage style Easter cart. It is a ceramic, and the cart is paper mache. I found it on clearance at Fortunoff last year. They have since gone out of business. :(

This is a vintage style egg, also purchased at Fortunoff. The egg is paper mache, and filled with little chicks galore. the are tucked in with yellow tulle all around them, which is hard to see in the picture. The egg is covered in a pretty aqua colored foil, and finished off with millinery flowers.

Vintage Things and Thrifty Thursday

Thank you so much ladies, these are two of my favorites! I found this pretty vintage silver sugar bowl at my local thrift store. Can you believe it was only $2.92, plus 25% off? SCORE!! Please click on any picture to enlarge. I decided I would make a vintage style pincushion out of it with some of my ribbon roses. The larger ribbon was made with a silky shiny ribbon. Very pretty and delicate with a shine to it, but hard to work with because it's so slippery. The other was made with a satin ribbon. I used vintage buttons, and a snippet of old lace, and just hot glued it on.

I love how it turned out, and I already had the ribbon, and buttons on hand. I was going to sell it on e-bay, but I think I might keep it! thanks for coming by to visit, and please visit the other participants for more vintage goodies, and thrifty finds!

Today, I am sharing my vintage recipe collage made by Cynthia of http://cynthiascottagedesign.blogspot.com/. She had done a post about all of her mom's recipe cards, and mentioned she might want to make a collage. What a great idea. So, I thought it might be nice to make a collage of some of mine, my moms' and my grandmother's recipe's. These are written in everyone's own handwriting, which I thought would be a special keepsake. I wrote to Cynthia, and asked if she would be interested in making it for me, because she is a design consultant, and makes the prettiest designs with papers, and graphics. She is a sweetheart to work with, and this is what we came up with. Please click on the picture to enlarge. I just love how it turned out!

A few of the images, like the one on the bottom left, was in my mom's recipe box. We incorporated it into the design. Didn't she do a fantastic job? Also here are some of my moms'

Today, I am sharing some photos of my vintage dresser. Here are some of my vintage perfume bottles. The one right in the front was a gift for Christmas from my dear daughter. It is Victoria's Secret Cashmere. It's such a pretty delicate fragrance with a little hint of vanilla. Vintage buttons in the little glass jar. I love vintage buttons! This little cutie was a flea market find for $3. My dear friend, who is a great seamstress, made this little outfit for her. I love the touch of vintage lace! She is a composition doll and her eyes open and close.

Speaking of buttons, see the pretty pink buttons? I admired them on Lisa's blog http://athingforroses.blogspot.com/2009/03/another-new-collection.html, and asked if she sells them. Can you believe she just sent them to me as a gift? What a sweetheart she is. Please visit her blog, and check out all the beautiful vintage things she collects. This link will take you right there. Here are some little trinket boxes that I love to collect, and a larger glass trinket box, with a beautiful cherub on it. I have some vintage jewelry displayed in it.

I just flipped when I found these long vintage gloves at an antique shop. They have 2 sweet buttons on them, and are the sweetest shade of soft pink see through nylon. Please click on any picture to enlarge.

Another sweet find at an antique shop is this vintage bed jacket. Trimmed in the prettiest lace, and such a sweet shade of pink. Can you tell I love PINK!!! It was in perfect condition, and I think was about $12.

I adore this tiny little baby dress. I have several of these dresses, and just love to hang them in my bedroom. Thank goodness hubby doesn't mind at all. This looks to be hand made, and to fit a baby about 6 months old. I wonder about the babies that wore these sweet little dresses. the intricate detail is amazing!

Pink Roses and Teacups
