Memories of Pretty Buttons

What is it with vintage buttons? Why do we love them so much? Here are some I have displayed in a jar on my dresser. I especially love the white mother of pearl buttons. Some are slightly yellowed, and have the prettiest patina. some of these were my moms and I just love them. Finding new ways to display them is so much fun! Here I put them on a sweet little butter dish, with a small candle cloche over them.

Here is a lovely photo courtesy of sweet Dawn over at http://the-feathered-nest.blogspot.com/
She makes the most lovely displays and hand made items. Please stop by to meet her sometime. I love how she displays her buttons in vintage jars on this shelf. Aren't the baby shoes just darling?

Now this beautiful wreath is courtesy of my sweet friend Shari from over at http://mycottageofbliss.blogspot.com/ I love how she made this wreath out of some her mom's favorite buttons. Isn't this a fabulous keepsake idea? Please stop over and visit her too! She is a sweetheart!

Here we have another lovely wreath. Look at how those mother of pearl buttons just sparkle! This is what I want to do with some of mine. I love the contrast of the whiter buttons mixed with the more vintage ones, that have a little yellowed patina. These ideas enable us to enjoy our buttons everyday, instead of having them packed away in cans or boxes.

Of course some of us will continue to keep our treasures in our favorite tins. That favorite one that belonged to Grandma that we played with when we were kids. A favorite thing to do on a rainy or cold day. Sorting them by colors or sizes kept us busy for hours. Maybe you had a favorite dress, and just loved the buttons. My mom always cut off the buttons before discarding any old pieces of clothing. We don't do that too much today, with thrift shops, and garage sales, and all of the recycling going on. Do you have any special memories of some favorite buttons? A special collection from your mom or grandma? I would love to hear your stories. Thanks for coming by to visit.

Love buttons...they are fun to decorate with and show them off just like you did. I also use them when I craft on some projects.

I love old buttons too. I have tin full of them. I'm not sure what to do with them but I just love looking at them! The wreath is gorgeous. I will go over and have a look at Shari's blog.

Hello, Debbie,
I enjoyed your post so much about vintage buttons! I also enjoyed the different ways to display them, especially the cloche idea! When I think of vintage buttons, I think of my mom who made everything my sister or I wore. She was like your mother, too. She saved everything. Even aluminum foil!! I think folks who lived through the great depression knew what it was like to be without and so they were savers. Thank you so much for stopping by Bunny Cottage for a cup of tea! Vicki

I love old buttons too and I love the vintage button cards! The graphics on those old cards are the best. My mom has a TON of buttons....she has sewed for years and most of the buttons she has have been inherited from friends and family that know she will use them. She gave me a bag recently with the most gorgeous bakelite vintage buttons. I've got to figure out a way to best display them. Thanks for showing all the great button ideas.
