Special Memories from Christmas

Hello, and welcome to our first pink theme Saturday hosted by Beverly of http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/12/pink-saturday-december-5-2009-a-pink-giveaway-and-christmas-around-our-home-day-six.html Thank you so much Beverly for hosting this special event. The idea is to share one of your favorite memories of Christmas. Well, one of my fondest memories of a childhood Christmas was baking cookies with my mom. Sorry I am a little late today.

Here are all of my moms original baking things, that bring back such wonderful memories for me. These things date back to the 50's (yes, I'm old) lol or older. These were the aluminum measuring cups, and bowls that we used to make these delicious cookies for Christmas. The wonderful smells, and the Christmas music playing in the background while we baked.

These are one of the kinds we would make. They were called Molasses Crinkles. You would roll them into a ball, and sprinkle a few drops of water on them, before popping them into the oven. That is the trick to giving them the crackle effect. Oh, I can just smell them now. (sniffling a tear)

These were somewhat of another kind we made. Christmas wreaths made with the cookie press that ejects the dough. She would carefully squeeze them out onto the baking pan, and then place a few little pieces of candied cherries for a bow on top. I don't have the original dough press, but I wish I did. :( She stored them all in round cookie tins, and stacked them in the dining room next to the buffet, so we wouldn't eat them all before Christmas. I always managed to sneak a few though. These are wonderful memories for me, of baking with my mom as a young girl. Today, I still love to bake cookies at holiday time, and I have 3 daughters in which to do it with. Have a wonderful holiday season, and thanks for coming by to share some memories with me.

Debbie, how I wish I had my mom's baking dishes and pans! She was an excellent cook, something I did not inherit from her, unfortuately. If my cookies or brownies come out good, its a small miracle. Your cookies look delicious...I do need to keep trying, for the sake of my granddaughters...they deserve a grandma that can at last bake them some cookies, right? LOL!!

God bles you!

Oh, Debbie... that has really got to be special! Having your mother's original things. That is Christmas. I can see my mother, grandmother, and aunt all baking together. They were so sweet. And they are probably in Heaven, baking up a storm as I type! LOL!

Happy Pink Saturday...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Debbie, your mom had the same Pyrex bowls my mom did! What fond memories those stir up. I remember the yellow bowl especially cuz I got to mix something in it when I was a little tyke. It's funny, tho, cuz I remember the bowl being soooooo much bigger than it looks now ;) Guess I'm a little bigger ;) Pretty cookies. We made (that is I made) SnickerDoodles that you drop in cinnamon/sugar then bake. My sister's grandmother-in-law was Swedish and she'd make the Spritz cookies like your wreaths. She also made 'lassie Cookies (derived from the Molasses they'd use when they didn't have sugar). Happy Pink Saturday and Merry Christmas, Debbie~
I see another Mary has already commented to you. This is a different Mary ;)

Oh Debbie, we all are looking back this week with such fond memories of our Christmas past. It fills me with so much warmth and love, takes me back to a simplier time. I too love to bake with my daughter this time of year and hope to carry on the traditions with my grandchildren, where do the years go. I remember wondering where the days go, but sadly now I ask where did the years go, Happy Pink Saturday, Char

What sweet memories, Debbie :-). How fortunate you are to have your mother's pots and pans. There's much to be said for well and lovingly seasoned cookware. I hope you are having a wonderful day and are looking forward to the holiday ahead.

Hi Debbie...thank you so much for stopping by and for your very sweet comment on my skates. Thankfully, the price of these skates didn't go very high like others I have seen. I would suppose a pair of ice skates new in a store can be pretty costly so ones hand painted by an artist were worth what I paid by a long shot. I have to admit I held my breath! :) I hope you can find a pair.
Your cookies look just delicious and beautiful. I haven't had the stamina to bake yet..and...I think I will leave it to my daughters.
Hopefully I will be up to it next year.
