Vintage Christmas Monday and My First Giveaway

These I found at a flea market this past summer for $1 each. They are made of plastic, and can be hung on the tree. The one on the left has a tag on it that says Japan. the Santa is a very soft plastic. I thought they were kind of neat.

Special Memories from Christmas

The idea is to share one of your favorite memories of Christmas. Well, one of my fondest memories of a childhood Christmas was baking cookies with my mom. Sorry I am a little late today.

Here are all of my moms original baking things, that bring back such wonderful memories for me. These things date back to the 50's (yes, I'm old) lol or older. These were the aluminum measuring cups, and bowls that we used to make these delicious cookies for Christmas. The wonderful smells, and the Christmas music playing in the background while we baked.

These are one of the kinds we would make. They were called Molasses Crinkles. You would roll them into a ball, and sprinkle a few drops of water on them, before popping them into the oven. That is the trick to giving them the crackle effect. Oh, I can just smell them now. (sniffling a tear)

These were somewhat of another kind we made. Christmas wreaths made with the cookie press that ejects the dough. She would carefully squeeze them out onto the baking pan, and then place a few little pieces of candied cherries for a bow on top. I don't have the original dough press, but I wish I did. :( She stored them all in round cookie tins, and stacked them in the dining room next to the buffet, so we wouldn't eat them all before Christmas. I always managed to sneak a few though. These are wonderful memories for me, of baking with my mom as a young girl. Today, I still love to bake cookies at holiday time, and I have 3 daughters in which to do it with. Have a wonderful holiday season, and thanks for coming by to share some memories with me.

Vintage Christmas Monday

Here is a set of Christmas angels that I had in my home from the 1950's. They are stamped Japan on the bottom. (yeah, I'm old) lol
I remember my mom would put these in a little shadow box that was built into the wall of our home in the dining room. A few have a chip here and there, but I love them just the same. My mom wrapped them in tissue, and I loved unwrapping them at Christmas.

These little guys I picked up at a yard sale for .25 each! I found a shoe box, and started rummaging through it, and the woman said "oh anything in there is .25" . I was thrilled when I found these. I wish there had been more like them. thanks for stopping by! See you next week!

Teacup Thingies Tuesday

Hello, and welcome to another Teacup Thingies Tuesday hosted by Kim of http://shabbypinkandpretty.blogspot.com/2009/11/tea-things-tuesday_16.html Thank you Kim for being are hostess today! The first item I am sharing with you today, is a miniature bone china chintz tea set. I bought it from e-bay many years ago. Isn't it adorable? There is no markings on it, but the pattern is like the teacup in the second picture. This teacup is in the pattern called Bethany, and is made in England. The pattern is the same as the little tea set only the blue flowers are not as vibrant. You can click on the pictures to make them bigger. See my little tea spoon with the teapot on it? My niece sent this to me for my birthday. I have never seen spoons with little teapots on them.

This is a little Limoges trinket box, given to me by my daughter for my birthday also. It is about 2" high, and is just so cute. I love anything with a teacup!

If you flip it over, the bottom opens up. How cute is that?

Holy Cow, Is This November?

Umm, okay what is wrong with this picture? Mother nature seems to be playing a trick on us. It's November, hello??? The temps has been very mild here in central NJ, 68, 71, 72 the past week. The nights are mostly on the cold side though. So, what is this little green stem thingly popping up in my garden? The spring bulbs are starting to bud!! No, no I said, go back down, it's not time yet! I hope the other ones in the garden don't pop up too, or they may freeze. I am enjoying the rather warm temps, but this is definately not November weather. It hasn't stopped me from drinking hot cocoa, or lighting my pine candles already. I even had the Christmas music on in my car too! But, this is just too wierd. Thanks for stopping by!

Memories of Pretty Buttons

What is it with vintage buttons? Why do we love them so much? Here are some I have displayed in a jar on my dresser. I especially love the white mother of pearl buttons. Some are slightly yellowed, and have the prettiest patina. some of these were my moms and I just love them. Finding new ways to display them is so much fun! Here I put them on a sweet little butter dish, with a small candle cloche over them.

Now this beautiful wreath is courtesy of my sweet friend Shari from over at http://mycottageofbliss.blogspot.com/ I love how she made this wreath out of some her mom's favorite buttons. Isn't this a fabulous keepsake idea? Please stop over and visit her too! She is a sweetheart!

Here we have another lovely wreath. Look at how those mother of pearl buttons just sparkle! This is what I want to do with some of mine. I love the contrast of the whiter buttons mixed with the more vintage ones, that have a little yellowed patina. These ideas enable us to enjoy our buttons everyday, instead of having them packed away in cans or boxes.

Of course some of us will continue to keep our treasures in our favorite tins. That favorite one that belonged to Grandma that we played with when we were kids. A favorite thing to do on a rainy or cold day. Sorting them by colors or sizes kept us busy for hours. Maybe you had a favorite dress, and just loved the buttons. My mom always cut off the buttons before discarding any old pieces of clothing. We don't do that too much today, with thrift shops, and garage sales, and all of the recycling going on.
