Vintage Thingies Thursday

Hello, and welcome to another Vintage Thingies Thursday, hosted by Suzanne at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/search/label/Vintage%20Thingies%20Thursdays. I think this is so much fun, as I love vintage things, and enjoying sharing my finds and seeing everyone elses neat stuff. Thanks so much Suzanne for making this a weekly event.First, I would like to share some lady head vases. Lady head vases were popular in the 50's-60's, and were sold in flower shops. There is a hole in the back of them to hold flowers. They were made by Inarco, Napco, and some just have numbers on them. Today, they are highly collectible, and can be quite pricey depending on the style and maker. They can be found in antique shops, flea markets, and e-bay. These I acquired from my in -laws who also loved to scour flea markets, and garage sales. She picked these up for a song. They are made of porcelain,
and some have very elaborate eyelashes. Some were adorned with necklaces and earrings too.

Here is a fun item hubby and I found in an antique shop last week. You probably have to be a baby boomer to guess what this is. he he (see the end of the post, and I will tell you what it is)

Here is another fun item dear daughter has modeled for us. he he This is vintage, made of layers of lace, and kind of looks like a lampshade. Can you guess what it is? It is a little cap, made to wear at night over your pin curls. You twisted sections of hair into little rings, secured them with hair clips or bobby pins, and then put on your little cap to hold them in. I thought it was neat.
Well, I hope you enjoyed your visit, and will visit the other participants over at Suzanne's. Oh, and the silver thingy in the picture is a speaker from a drive-in movie. Did you know what it was? thanks for coming by.

Oh Debbie! I love it all! The head vases are beautiful. I do remember those old drive-in speakers but I had to read to the end of the post to find out what it was. I still have a drive in not far from home but the last time I was there you would listen to it through your car radio.

Thanks for the memories.

Those are the coolest lady head vases. I'm thinking I remember seeing a couple of those at my grandma's house back in the day but unfortunately have no idea what happened to them.
I did not know that was a speaker from a drive-in movie theater and I am old enough to remember drive-in movies!! That one was so big!
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

What an interesting and variety VTT post. No, I did not know what the drive in speaker was. I used to go to drive in movies a lot, but guess I was not looking at the speaker.

Your ladies head vases are just wonderful-I love the details-the pearl necklace is just priceless!

Our drive-in also switched to using the radio-it was kind of nice because you could sit outside!

I was visiting over on Bunny Cottage leaving a comment and saw your name and with a name like Pink Roses and Teacups, how in the world could I resist visiting you, sugar?! I'm glad I did. Darling blog. AND yes, I knew it was a speaker from a drive-in theater. I'm an old chick, ya know. Nice to meet you, sweetpea. Drop by and visit me sometime.

Hi, Debbie,
Thanks for a stroll down memory lane! Those head vases are so cute. The drive in movie speaker is wonderful. We always went to the drive in when I was a young girl and teenager, too. My favorite is that lace cap because I had one very similar to it. I would roll my hair up on rollers and then put the cap on over the rollers to cover them up. Thank you for coming by Bunny Cottage. You always leave me the nicest compliments, and I so appreciate it. Blessings to you, dear friend! Vicki

Hi Debbie,
Thank you for stoping by my site, always love to see a new name there.
I have five of the lady head vases. I find them at the thrift store or garage sales. I remember them when I was little, I even had a few of them. Who knows what became of them. One I got for .10 cents, can't complain about that price.

Hi Debbie! Oh, those head vases bring back happy memories. My grandma had one very similar to the one with the hat. Wish I knew what became of it. I always look at them in the shops, but they are so expensive now!

Our daughter has a drive-in speaker that she loves. She is interested in 50s-early 60's things like Chevy Bel Aires, diners and drive-ins. What fun times!! Love your blog!

My goodness, I should have guessed the "silver thingy" but I didn't. When I was 16 I was at a drive in with a wonderful boy that I became engaged to. He was trying to get the speaker through the window when it slipped and hit me in the mouth breaking off my front tooth. No bonding in those days and the dentist just filed the two front teeth down. I later had them fixed..at the ripe old age of 61. I rather wish I had just left them alone.. :)
I didn't marry the young man..but not because of my front tooth. wow..a drive in speaker! Interesting! :)
